The UEFA Champions League 2024-25: schedule, format and team.

The UEFA Champions League is a prestigious annual club football tournament organized by UEFA or the Union of European Football Association that involves some of the top Football Clubs in Europe.  It was first inaugurated as the ‘European Cup’ in 1955-1966 which was later renamed as ‘The Champions League’ in the 1992-1993 season. The UEFA Champions League 2024-25 season is going to start on 9 July 2024 and we are expecting that the final match will be played on 31 May 2025 at Allianz Arena in Munich Germany.

What is UEFA?

UEFA is the governing body that organizes various national teams’ Football competitions in Europe which was founded on 15th June 1954 in Switzerland. It is responsible for organizing various competitions which include UEFA Champions League Matches, UEFA Europe League Matches, UEFA European Championship Matches, UEFA Nations League Matches, UEFA Super Cup, UEFA Youth League Matches, and UFA Women’s Champions League Matches.

Format of The Champions League:

The former seasons of The Championship leagues followed a similar pattern in which the tournament was divided into four rounds which includes

Qualification Round-

This is the first stage of the League that involves smaller UEFA member clubs competing to qualify for playing in the Group stage.

Group Stage-

The Group stage is the most crucial round and is the main tournament of the league in which 32 teams participate after qualifying in the qualification round. The top two teams from each group of eight used to get promoted to the knockout stage

Knockout Stage-

The knockout stages include different rounds of matches including Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Finals.

Final-

This is the final and deciding stage of the UEFA Champions League. The winner of this stage is the Champion of the UEFA Champions League of that particular season.

New Format of The Champions League 2024-25

The 33rd season of the UEFA Champions League is going to adopt certain changes in the pattern and the format of the tournament. The 2024-25 season is the first such season under the new format. The major changes could be in the Group stage round in which 36 clubs will participate instead of 32 clubs in the Champions League. Under the new format, the teams will play eight matches in the Group stage, unlike the previous format.
